What sort of water heating do you have?
1. Electric hot water cylinder:
- To determine if its an electrical issue check your fusebox to see if any fuses have tripped, check the power switch near the cylinder itself is in the on position.
- Run a hot water tap - if the water at this tap is luke warm or cold then feel the pipe coming out of the cylinder. If this is also cold the cause is most likely an issue with the thermostat or element and this will require an electrician rather than a plumber.
- Please note: some kitchens are supplied by a small under bench hot water cylinder which would be separate to the rest of the house’s hot water supply.
2. Gas hot water cylinder:
- Check other gas appliances to see if these are working (if not check that the gas meter has not been turned off by the supplier - they usually leave a tag on the meter is this is the case).
- If you do have gas at other appliances then it could be that the gas hot water cylinders pilot light has gone out. Most cylinders will have a label with instructions how to relight it. If you cannot get the pilot re-lit please contact us to arrange a visit.
3. Gas instantaneous hot water unit: (Common names: infinity, integrity)
- Do you have internal control panels? Make sure these are working.
- If your gas unit has a removable power plug, and to determine if it is an electrical issue you can test the powerpoint by plugging in a hairdryer, lamp or similar to see if there is power
- If you determine that there is no power to the unit this is likely an electrical issue and we recommend getting an electrician to attend rather than a plumber/gasfitter.
- If you confirm there is power to the unit or the unit is hardwired in and you cannot test if its an electrical issue then please contact us and we can arrange a booking!
